Surrounded by splendid mountains, glaciers, and gushing water of Yamuna River stands proudly the magnificent Yamunotri Temple that nestles Yamuna Devi idol. It is made of polished black ebony marble and has exquisite carvings, giving it a divine look.
Goddess Yamuna is the daughter of Sun (Surya). It is believed that a visit to this auspicious shrine and bathing in the sanctified waters of Yamuna cleanses the sins and protects people from uncertainties. Yamunotri temple holds strong associations in Hindu mythology and high ranks of divinity.
Two beautiful and sacred springs, namely, Surya Kund and Gauri Kund, spouting hot and cold water, respectively, are located near the Yamunotri temple from the Yamuna River.
