Surya Kund

Surya Kund is a hot water spring near Yamunotri Temple with huge religious significance. According to Hindu Mythology, the Yamuna River is the daughter of Surya Devta (Sun) and Saranyu Devi, the goddess of perception.

The temperature of this natural thermal water spring in the vicinity of the Yamunotri shrine is around 88 degrees. The pilgrims tie rice and potatoes in a muslin cloth and dip them inside the hot spring of Surya Kund for cooking. It is believed that eating it fulfills the wishes of the devotees.
